I really enjoy working in the wood flooring business. Wood flooring adds timeless beauty to any space and is the most renewable, environmentally conscious choice of floor coverings.

I grew up around wood all my life. My dad was a Cabinet Maker and had a shop in our garage. Since I was old enough to hold a hammer I have been building with wood. As a young man projects started small with nick knacks, furniture and at age 13, a 3-foot radio controlled boat. At 16 I spent my summer drafting plans, building a scale model to then build a 16-foot Rouge River style drift boat, including the oars. I still enjoy fishing from that same boat.

Over the years I've worked on many home and commercial remodel projects, cabinetry, furniture building and repair.

In 1991 I started at Ryerson Hardwood Floors. My many duties as a dedicated employee included installation, sanding, finishing, managing crews, warehouse, bidding, tool repair, tool maintenance, tool rental, sales, safety chairman, office support, quality inspector, PCC class instructor and anything else that needed done to achieve our common goal.

That goal is to provide the customer with a wood floor that performs to its full potential. In my working career small business has been satisfying to work with. The contact with the customer is very personable and the satisfaction of a happy customer is immediate. I've been a route driver for a service company, pumped gas, milling & shipping parts for a non-ferrous metal supplier and built myrtle wood grandfather clocks.

For recreation I enjoy the outdoors, work with stained glass, and spending time with my family.

In my professional life and personal life the challenge I like most is coming up with common sense solutions to situations that need attention or things that can be improved on. Helping a customer with ways to improve their existing floor or selecting the perfect new floor is very satisfying. Giving the customer knowledge, whether they hire Performa Floors or choose to do it themselves, they will have the power to be successful. With knowledge, planning, preparation, and determination I believe a person can do anything. If its a good experience they will tell all their friend how great wood floors really are.
